SAFE SCHOOL RALLIES GO AHEAD SUCCESSFULLY AROUND THE COUNTRY

Thousands have successfully protested in support of Safe Schools around the country after recent changes to water down the anti-bullying program were announced.

The protests took place in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth with members of the community coming together for the like cause of LGBT rights and to show their disapproval towards the Turnbull government’s announcement that it will make changes to the Safe Schools program, after a recent review was completed.

Around 3000 people took part in Melbourne where supporters met at the State Library of Victoria, then marched down Swanston Streets to flinders Street Station.

Victorian Education Minister James Merlino spoke at the event and said the state will keep the Safe Schools program "with or without federal government support".

Merlino is also making the program compulsory and it will be throughout all Victorian high schools by the end of 2018.



Those in Brisbane also turned out in support of Safe Schools.
