Is this a strange thing to punish a child for?

My brither's wife has always been a weird parent. Or so I think. So do you find this odd?

She punished her kids for copying each other. Especially her middle child, because he does it most.

Like if she sees her son copying one of the other kids she will make him stop what he's doing right then and wrote 10 times "I will think for myself."

While we were there today my son was acting like the broom was a lady and pretend flirting with it. Then her son did it and she made him write lines.

I find it weird.

Her son IS a bit of a follower but I don't see anything wrong with that. I don't want my nephew to grow up with a complex or something.

I could see if he was making a nuisance of himself intentionally copying people over and over.

No not like that. He just likes to do what the group is, you know?

How old? I wish ds would stop following people. He would be the one to jump off a bridge just bc others do it.

That's a bit too involved for my liking. Not my monkey, not my circus.

I find it more odd that your son was pretending a broom was a lady and flirting with it. How old is your kid? That's really strange.
