when i was a kid and i would visit my tribe i would hear the racial stuff and slurs....i havent heard it since i was a child. today however i was talking with a woman, she asked what i was (meaning my heritage) thinking it was no big deal i said that i am Native american and scottish/irish(moms full scot, dads Irish, Comanche). her face got all twisted up and she goes "ew...youre a cherry ni***r?" she then angrily went over to her husband and he said "doesnt that bush ni***r have a casino to work at?". these people werent much older than me either...when i heard this stuff i was in Texas/Oklahoma with my great grandparents, and i heard it said to my grompy(great grandpa) and it was always older people.....i havent heard this stuff since my grompy died when i was 7.....so glad my kids werent with me....not something i want to explain to them just yet.

I'm sorry you had to hear that. I'm well blended of several different countries, but I too am Native American. My skin is fairer so my tribe doesn't "show" on my skin. My mother is half Italian, one quarter scotts irish, one quarter Cherokee. I've never heard the term "cherry n*****" before. How sad. Glad your kiddlins weren't around for that too. I bid you peace.

That is ridiculous. I am part Native American (I have no idea how much but apparently two different tribes) I look like a German woman but I have the eyes and *groan and mumble* genetically dark under eyes. I know the terms but I have never heard anyone say them in a derogatory manner. That wasn't cool. I am sorry that was said to you.

I've never heard those words. I'm sorry you had them directed at you. I'm part Cherokee but it's a few generations removed & you can't really tell.

This is why I will not move back south with my children. They never need to learn that some people think it's okay to hate someone just for their skin color.

I misread your post, I thought it said you were in Texas.
