-Jim Crow with its Black Codes lasted from 1865-1965 and had laws such as curfew at 10pm, illegal to live in a home unwed, arrested if unemployed, restricted housing

-Even when Blacks are successful, communities have been destroyed(Black Wallstreet, Atlanta, Chicago, D.C, Knoxville, etc)

-Many Black veterans were denied the same home and business loans as White counterparts and even whe they could get them and move into nice neighborhoods White Flight happened and home values decreased.

-Just because laws change that doesn't mean people do, it takes time. Even modern studies prove that White sounding names get more callbacks when applicants are equally qualified.

-When you have land and property you can build wealth, access to wealth has been harder for Blacks and other minorities.

-These days because of capitalism poor Whites have it hard also mostly because without some type of wealth, even a little when one thing goes wrong you can find yourself underwater.

Yes, some people beat the odds and yes decisions play a factor but so does history and environment.

I think a lot of people forget this. The 60s wasn't all that long ago. There are probably still KKK members alive who set fires to black houses or churches, who participated in lynchings and other abuses. Maybe they've changed (hopefully). And in South Africa, apartheid didn't end until 1994. My daughter was born the year before. It's crazy to think.

Because of capitalism poor whites have it hard

Explain that, if you can

In order for capitalism to work, people have to suffer and this means there must be low wage jobs providing barely enough for sustenance.

All that's true. I see quite a bit of racism at work from people who don't realize they are doing it. My boss often treats black subcontractors and architects as if they are incompetent and need more help doing their jobs (he does this with women too).
