Spinoff: What skills should EVERYONE have?

What are those things you think everyone should be able to do? Basic life skills or maybe even more specialty things that just would be beneficial.

Ex: change a tire, change oil, (other post)

I'll add, I think people should be able to sew on buttons or mend, follow a recipe, fix a toilet, operate your home's fuse box...

General personal finance...bank accounts, credit cards, mortgages, etc.

I agree with swim for sure!! The other I think vary on where you live. Some places you'd never have a need, know what I mean?

Have you seen the movie Juan of the Dead? When the zombies come everyone should be able to drive. :)

Those are 3 things I feel like I need to teach my kids how to do. And how to make coffee. For me that's a survival skill too.

Basic cooking, mending, finances, tires and oil changes, and how to read a paper map. I've also met people that can't read a clock that's not digital...that seems odd to me.
