I wasn't ready. So scary.

I took my 17 year old in for his cardio check up at the children's hospital today. He was born with a heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot.

We always knew he may need another surgery, but were always told it would be when his heart started showing signs of not doing well. He has seemed fine, but they found some changes today.

They said that they are going to work on getting some additional tests, get some consultations among his medical panel, and move forward with a heart valve replacement. They said that it should happen within the next year.

I was not ready to hear this today. Not at all. I'm so scared and worried for him.

He's taking it better than I am. He has no recollection of everything he went through as a baby. I, on the other hand, am still slightly traumatized from the experience.

His biggest worry is if he will need open heart surgery or if it can be done through a catheterization. He's obviously scared of open heart. We won't know which he qualifies for until a little further down the road though.

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry. I can only imagine the panic and fear from hearing that. I hope and pray all goes well!

My older brother was born with that. He is in his 50s and just found out he was supposed to have surgery in his 20s for this. My mother was shocked because no one ever told her he would have to have a second surgery.

After Monday and Tuesday even the calender says W.T.F.
