Yes. I find it rude when they don't bother to say "hello" in the first place.

It's a little annoying sometimes but I like it better than the ones who talk your ear off.

I worked customer service and retail and was always told to make a point to greet every customer. I could see the girl was annoyed by a previous customer, but don't take it out on me.

I just figure I don't hear them. I have issues with my right ear.

As a cashier, I find it rude when you smile at a customer and say "Hi, how are you doing today?" and instead of any kind of answer, you get a grunt or they look at you like you're the pile of dog shit the neighbors dog left and you stepped in.

That's how I felt when I greeted this cashier today

Having worked in retail, I find it much more common for the associate to greet a customer and be met with stony silence.

That does bug me, but what really annoys me is when she is ringing up my stuff and talking to someone else the whole time. Has happened often enough that I made a plan. Last time when she told me my total I just stood there for a min or 2 and when she told me again I was like "I'm sorry, I thought you were telling her since you haven't said a word to me the whole time I've been here"

I've never had that happen.
