Tie Dying tips. I've never done it before

I'm not crafty at all. My 4 yo dd had her heart set on a monster costume we saw at a local thrift store. She begged for it and when we went back to get it someone else already bought it.

I looked online and found a green and blue one on eBay. Size small 4-6 kids. It came in the mail yesterday. It came with a hat, leg warmers, dress and tights. It's in really good shape and i love it....except that the costume I got wasn't kids 4-6 it's juniors 0-9. The dress is taller than my kid.

The hat fits and the leg warmers can be hot glued or safety pinned to her leggings. So I went to dollar tree and bought 2 flimsy blue and green tutus that I can layer. She has a white shirt and leggings that she needed for school one day. I bought a tie dye kit at Michaels and I figure that I can just tie dye the outfit.

Only I've never tie dyed before. I know I could watch some videos on YouTube but I was wondering if anyone has any other tricks or tips?
