Do you buy your kids things that they want right before the holidays?

DD and I had to return something at toys r us (she got a room makeover and one of the things that we bought was broken so we had to return it)...she saw something on her holiday list that she wanted and begged me to buy it. I said no considering that the holidays are around the corner. A cute little old lady heard me telling her that as DD cried and said "oh just get it...why make her wait"....I have decided to not shop until Thanksgiving...what's so bad about that? The little old lady made it seem like I was horrid.

A common phrase this time of year is, "add it to your list." This time next year, I'll have two birthdays and 5 kids for Christmas within a month. They can wait.

How old is your child? It's kind of rude on that older lady's part.

It depends 100% on what the item is and how old my child was.

Our rule is no toys or wants starting October 1st. Needs only. It goes for all of us.

She's 5. It's a toy puppy that costs $50

Nope, they ask, I say, what if Santa brings it for you. Or wait till after Christmas. I start that in September.

Absolutely not. I would not of bought a $50 puppy for a five-year-old this close to Christmas. I think it's a better life lesson to have her wait. I completely agree with you!

OP, that old lady was very rude to say that.
