Not "allowed" to watch love-making -but allowed to watch porn?

My sister has the weirdest ass rule. Her DD (We'll call her C, she's 16) can watch any movie or show where sex is shown as a hookup, porn, a long term relationship, anything - as long as the sex does not contain virignity 'loss'. C just got home from spending the night at my house where we watched a couple of episodes of OITNB and Dirty Dancing. Guess which one my sister was pissed off at? Yep, you're right. She also won't let C read any teen romance books where they talk about sex/first time sex. If they've got pages of erotica about "teasingly kissing down every inch of her body" with filthy language - it's fine. If it's "It's my first time", special, slow, blah blah blah - my niece is NOT allowed to read them. I asked her why and my sister said it was partly because she didn't want C to think that sex was anything special, so she would hold off forever/until she movies out and partly because she's terrified that if she allows C to watch/read that stuff then she will come home with her own admission of virginity loss. C and I talked about sex after watching Dirty Dancing and she told me that she never realized it could be "nice" until then. That she thought it had to be fast, rushed and that you never talk about anything afterwards. That's sad. WDYT?

3 moms liked this

No offense, but your sister is an idiot. If you can not convince her that she is scaring her DD about sex, then make sure DD knows she can always come talk to you. That poor girl will need someone that she can talk to.

From my experience kids always go for what they are sheltered from.

Nope - My sister monitors everything and friends are only allowed over her house. She wasn't allowed to take part in any sex ed classes and because she's so niave -she doesn't have many friends. I have no idea how *I* went this long without knowing the rule; but there's a lot over the years that I didn't find out about until it was too late to help.

Good Lord. Poor thing. Hiding it does more damage than good.

I had a friend like that. He was a guy with super strict conservative Christian parents. He said the first time he masturbated to the point of ejaculation (at 13 or 14) he called his older brother in a panic because he had no idea what had just happened and was seriously scared he messed up something in his body and was going to die.

It was one of the saddest, and funniest things I had ever heard.

That rule is almost as stupid as the "Can't wear tampons while a virgin" rule my mother had.  Just exactly what is a tampon going to do?  Stupid movie rule.

She is not allowed to use tampons either. But at this stage she doesn't want to

That is so incredibly sad and backwards.
