How old were your kids when they got their first smart phones?

My oldest kids (twins) bought their own smart phones (Samsung Galaxies) when they were about 20.

I gave my middle son a used iPhone 5 when he was 17.

I gave my youngest child (a girl) my old iPhone 4 when she was 13.

Around here, it seems like all her friends have brand new iPhones or the very latest model of an Android phone.  It's nuts.  (We live in an expensive, hoity-toity area . . .)

When did you give your kids their first smart phones?  Or did you?

Now that it's after Christmas, DD is the only 6th grader that doesn't have a phone in her school.

Ds will get his first this summer for his 11th bday. He's going into middle school this fall so we think it's the right time.

My oldest is almost 10. She got one for Christmas. It's not a super expensive brand or anything and it's just on a tablet data plan. She asked Santa for one so she could play Pokemon Go.

None of mine do yet, we have always told them not till 12. It comes up often as all their friend have smart phones, even some of the neighborhood 6/7 year olds. Crazy!

 I was 17
