My heart just broke, I'm sitting here trying not to cry

There is a Daddy-Daughter dance in my area that the churches do every year. It's a formal event, black tie, formal dress event, think along the lines of a traditionally formal Prom, and open to all fathers and their daughters, regardless of the age of the daughter and each father can take ALL of his daughters whether he has 1 or 6.

All that said, my oldest girl got a flyer at school and showed it to me, and she asked me "Why doesn't Daddy love me enough to be here so he can go with me?" Those words are burned in my brain right now.

Her dad is due for sentencing any time and will be in prison for several years. I have no answers. I'm doing the best I can, but I can't unmake the choices their father made. As much as I want to I can't make this better.

Is there an uncle or grandpa around to take her?

That's so sad. Does she have an uncle or grandfather who could take her instead? She needs a male role modEl who can step in while her father is in prison. What is he going to prison for?

Is there another (positive) male role model in her life that can go?

Is there no other male role model in your lives? Friend, a brother, Grandparent?

That is so sad for her. Is there another close relative that can take her?

I have always found Daddy daughter dances to be strange. Why no sons?

No. My dad doesn't have much to with us at all, his dad lives out of state and isn't allowed around children.

Stupid comment. That would be a mother son dance and we go to those too.

My kids will have the no male role model issue soon. Right now it doesn't seem to bother them.
