Mom Told Friend Blind Date Named ‘Chad’ Would Fix Her Car. Now She’s Missing With Her Children

After firefighters responded to a blaze at a Virginia Beach, Virginia, home early Sunday morning, they tried contacting one of the home's two tenants. When they couldn't get a hold of 29-year-old Monica Lamping, they called her parents.

That's when Sheila Bogart and her husband realized that they couldn't get a hold of their daughter, either.

The mother of 7-year-old Kai and 9-month-old, Oria, nor her children have been heard from since 10:30 p.m. on Saturday January 21st.

According to Virginia Beach's WAVY 10, the last person to see Monica Lamping was her best friend, Anne Shell. This last appearance was when Lamping dropped off her children to go for lunch with a blind date ,a man Lamping only identified as “Chad.”

The Virginia-Pilot reports that Lamping came back to pick her children up from Shell's house around 5 p.m. She stayed and chatted with Shell before leaving for a “baby-sitting commitment.” It was only later that Shell learned Lamping canceled the commitment.

As the Virginia-Pilot reports, Shell and Lamping texted each other throughout the evening, with Lamping even asking Shell for a ride the following morning. The last text Shell received from Lamping was at 10:30 p.m.

When firefighters contacted Shell Sunday morning to see if Lamping had been in touch, Shell told them that Lamping's phone was either dead or turned off. Shell told the Virginia-Pilot:

“At that point, I got really scared.”

Moira Lamping, the wife of Monica's ex-husband, Kevin Lamping, spoke to ABC 13 News Now, saying that firemen went to her house on Sunday morning in an effort to locate Monica and her kids.

She claims that Monica Lamping is always good about keeping in touch with loved ones; of the fire which killed two of Lamping's pets, a dog and a cat, Moira says she's confident that Lamping would never have knowingly left her pets in danger.

In regards to Lamping's blind date “Chad,” Moira explained:

"Her best friend Anne did watch the kids last night for her to go on a date with somebody named Chad. That's the only name we have on him, [and] that she met at a gas station...

She picked the kids back up around 5:30 last night... She said something about car trouble and Chad could fix it."

Missing along with Monica Lamping and her two children is Lamping's dark green 2002 Jeep Cherokee with Virginia license plate XPU-6357:

According to WTRK, Kevin Lamping said police told him Monica's plates were tracked at 2 a.m. Sunday morning heading towards Portsmouth, Virginia, roughly two hours before the fire department was called to her home.

The military flew Kevin home from Florida after he learned that his son, Kai, never showed up for school on Monday.

Police have updated Lamping's case to “Missing/Endangered Persons” as the circumstances surrounding her disappearance are suspicious.

Kevin told WTRK that they are tying to spread the word about his ex-wife's disappearance through social media as much as possible:

“You are our Amber alert since we don't fit the criteria to make an Amber alert. Social media is kind of the lifeline right right now so please keep sharing our story please keep it going.”

Anyone with information about Monica Lamping is urged to contact the Virginia Beach Police Detective Bureau at 757-385-4101 or Virginia Beach Police Emergency Communications at 757-385-5000.

Something very odd about this situation. Her house goes up in flames, she has no idea people are looking for her, and were worried she was missing.

Reading how she was found alive and well makes me wonder if she didn't start the fire herself.

It's all too suspicious.

How did she not know they were looking for her?

Whole situation is very odd. How do you not know your family would be looking for you? I know that if I am leaving for an extended period of time, my family would be aware. Also if she had pets she must have made arrangements for someone to care for them in her absence. I can leave my cat for a couple of days without someone checking but not a dog. That tells me she knew about the fire and there was no need for anyone to check on the pets
