Is this how its done now?

I went to a funeral today. The pastor asked people to stand and say something about the person. Most of the eulogy was like a sermon. This is quite different than what I'm used to. Is this how services are done now? Its been many years since I went to one.

I recently went to a funeral. It was nothing like that. It also spanned 3 days.

Funerals tend to be a lot like weddings in the way that they vary depending on the person/family.

Southern Baptists don't miss a chance to preach a sermon. I was raised southern Baptist and they did that at every funeral I went to.

I've been to a lot where they ask people to talk.

I've been to two Catholic funerals recently and people were also asked if we wanted to say anything. Caught me by surprise. I'm not good at spontaneous public speaking and I wish I'd known because I could have prepared something :(
