Are you polite with people that work in customer service?

I went to a store to return something earlier today and there was a woman trying to return a dress without having the dress. She is here angrily trying to getting her money for something she doesn't have to return and she is yelling and ranting. I don't get why people get mad at customer service folk when they don't deserve it. I totally get it when the employee is unhelpful, lazy or completely rude. This doesn't make sense to me. I am polite to these people even if the outcome is not in my favor. Maybe working in customer service myself made me more patient because alot of time it is out of their control.

I am extra sweet to customer service people because that is my employment background.
I've been in the trenches and understand what they go through....like the crazy lady in your instance.

She sounds crazy to think she could return something without returning anything. Security should have escorted her out.

I'm polite if they're polite. I don't care if they're friendly, just don't be rude is all I ask.

Yes, I always am. It's a thankless job and they're usually the ones who get shit on by people (like the woman you mention).

Are they polite to me? If so yes, if not they get attitude. I've been in customer service. It's not that hard to be nice.

My attitude reflects whatever attitude they have. I always start out friendly and positive, however.

Always. Even when I'm in the crappiest mood ever.

I try to be polite with all interactions, its not the employees fault that the stores have certain policies.

I never worked in customer service, and to be honest, I don't think that I could handle it.

I'm always polite to people; my British-born mother instilled manners into me when I was very young.

I have been snarky with other customers on occasion, though, through no fault of my own, of course. :)

Some customers simply do not realize or care that whatever gripe they have with merchandise/food, etc. has nothing whatsover to do with the salesperson or waiter/waitress.

I don't want anyone spitting in my food the next time I go to Tim Horton's for a breakfast sandwich!

Of course it's not hard. The problem is that there are some who don't know how to be nice.
