Fluently. Like you can have a real conversation with someone and understand what they are saying and they understand what you are saying.

Are they languages you learned from birth? In school? On your own? Do your husband and kids speak this language or another language?

Do you believe Americans should learn another language?

I don't speak any other language fluently, but I can communicate with people who speak Spanish slowly, lol. Yes, I think it is beneficial for Americans to learn second and even third languages. We are quickly becoming a global society.

My first language is Yiddish. I started learning English in second or third grade but we still spoke Yiddish at home so I could only speak it at school. My husband learned English much later than me, around seventh or eighth grade. We speak mostly Yiddish at home with our children and my daughter goes to a school that teaches in Yiddish and English. Best of both worlds :)
