How do so many of you not know what a codpiece is???

I mean, I do have an interest in history and so I've been exposed to the term a lot when reading about armor, but I never realized this wasn't a common knowledge thing.

For anyone who doesn't know, it's the predecessor of the modern day athletic cup.

That's how I know about it by watching a lot of gladiator type movies.

I was wondering the same thing. It's like no one reads anymore.

I've never heard the term before. I like history but I guess that's not the type I'm interested in.

We learned about them in school but I also saw them a lot in museums and castles in England.

If I'm not into history or sports, how exactly would I know this? What you explained is the first time I've ever heard of what it was. I saw a picture in the other thread, but didn't understand what it was.
I'm still confused as to what it has to do with sex.

If I hadn't majored in history or watched a lot of period drama's I'd probably have no clue what one was.

I know what it is, but I'm big on bodice ripper historical romance novels.
