Mother's Day vent

I hate that people love to schedule things on Mothers Day weekend.

"oh lets have a tea."

"lets do this or that"

Why do people do this?

My thing is this. My mother is dead. I go away for Mother's Day with my kids. I dont want to be bothered.

People at church come up to me the next week asking why I didnt come. I don't want a carnation!

Just say: I didn't want to come.

No biggie.

I think they do it to be as inclusive as possible because some people either are by themselves or don't do anything so they schedules teas and luncheons to celebrate.

I just tell people I have plans already and leave it at that.

The just say: I don't want to go. I don't want to visit. I am not interested.

Super easy.

Just say it.

You don't have to take part but some people enjoy those types of things. I'm sorry you are still hurting so much. I would just be honest and say, "Mother's Day is a hard day for me bc I miss my mother." Then people will know and not bother you about it.

I just lost my mom in Sept so this will be the first mother's day without her. i understand where you are coming from but others don't know how you feel about mother's day so they're trying to enjoy the day how they like to celebrate. Nothing to get upset about. Sorry for your loss

No, thank you. It's not hard. I'm sorry about your mom, but not everyone doesn't have a mother.

I have a friend who plans these things for people who have adult kids who live far away.  She had a mother's day tea one year.  But if I don't want to go I just say no thank you.  Not everyone cares about mother's day or knows what is on your mind.  They're just inviting to be friendly.
