Is it okay to keep a tired kid home from school?

When a kid is really tired (late sports practice or too much homework or a weekend that was too busy) . . . do you think it's okay to let them stay home?

Do you let your kids stay home from school when they are just tired?

No. They go to school. They go to bed earlier that night.

No. Adults go to work when they don't manage their time and end up tired. So should kids.

depends on the age...

my DD is 7 and she has missed full days of school for Cheer Competitions, she has also gone in late because a competiton was on a sunday and it took forever to travel home.

it also depends on how they are currently doing in school.

I think that occasionally it's a good idea.

Nope.  They'll just have to suck it up and go.  I've had to go to work when I'm super tired, so they can manage too.  They can just go to bed early.

Unless my kid has a fever, is puking, has a cough that would be distracting to others, is bleeding or on fire he goes to school.

Ds has missed 1 day this whole year and it was due to a gigantic snow storm and we couldn't get out of the driveway and it was way to cold to walk.

depends on what is going on at school and how much they've already missed.

No. They'd go and I'd reevaluate their activities. If you're too tired for school, extras have got to go.

If homework was the issue, I'd figure out why.

In my opinion, no. I don't stay home from work because I was up half the night with a sick baby. If sports practice is keeping them up so late that they are falling asleep in school, we would be reconsidering that sport. Everything else, they should have had their homework done earlier and shouldn't schedule so much on the weekends if it's making them tired for school.
