My Family Still Sees my Ex

So we're sitting around the table for Mother's Day and my sister starts telling me about how part of what we are eating was made by my ex-boyfriend when he was over the night before to visit.

Here's the background - he was 13 years older than me and a divorced alcoholic bartender.  We dated for about 9 months.  We broke up because of his drinking and lack of motivation to do anything with his life.  After we broke up, I started dating my now husband.  It has been over 6 years since we broke up.  My family met my ex while we were dating.  This is typical.  But for some reason they have maintained contact.  I don't get it.  They weren't that close of friends when we were together so why now?

I feel like this is disrespectful to my now husband.  Am I overreacting?

Yeah, you don't get to decide who your family chooses to have in their lives.

I would find it odd that they took to having a relationship with someone you didn't deem good enough to continue seeing, especially with him being an alcoholic but it is their choice I guess.

It's some guy you barely dated, 6+ years ago.

At this point, he's been their friend longer than he was your boyfriend so... yes. Yes, you are overreacting.

Yes - you don't get to tell someone else who they can have as friends.

Your husband is highly insecure if he feels disrespected that your family is friends with a random dude from 6 years ago.

I would just feel sorry for your family that they don't have higher standards than that. At least you know better than to associate with losers.
