To have hard candy and gum? Hard candy like Jolly Ranchers, bulky and hard to chew. Ds turned 4 in January and I don't let him have these things. He understands, not to swallow gum, I'm just not sure he takes it seriously. But I think my ex does let him have them, so I'm wondering if I'm just being weird.

My 4 yr old gets gum. When I let her get candy she always picks gum. She's never had hard candies though.

I let them have the big suckers but I am just now letting them have gum and hard candy at 8 and 9.

No, I think my 4yo is too young for those.  I barely like giving her nuts and grapes, lol.

EDIT: Actually, I take that back, she does sometimes have suckers.  I'm less afraid of her choking on those.

My daughter choked on a Werthers butterscotch when she was that age. She did cough it up. Scared me BAD.
