We went on vacation and my step dd ended up needing stitches in her head. She and my dd went to get ice(we were at a hotel) and walk the dog. On the way back, sd wasn't paying attention and ran head first into a staircase made of cement and pebbles. She told her mom that my dd pushed her into the stairs!

She's just being over dramatic for attention. Ffs

How old is she? I wouldn't be ok with a lie like that.

It's always the step children that are the ass holes of the family, right?

They are children, the parents are supposed to be the rational adults.

She's 8. And my dh is pissed that she would lie like that.

Is there a reason to think one child would lie over the other.

So you weren't there when she was hurt and don't know exactly how it happened.  At this point I wouldn't automatically call her a liar.  You're the one who really needs to STFU.

Have you guys talked to her about it? Asked her why she said that? Make her apologize to your dd and to bm for lying. Natural consequences for what she did.
