How to come out to your family that you...

Changed your name? I am 28 years old and I have never liked my first name I have gotten tons of comments such as that is a strippers name to that is a black ladies name to people asking for my real name. Ummm that is my real name.
And I absolutely HATE my middle name. So I have decided to change my name in all ways but legal because it cost money time and a lot of hassle to legally do it. And my father in law did that. His driver's licence and social security stuff like that has a different first and last name then what he goes by.
Anyways I don't want to hurt my parents feelings but I don't like my name and my cousins aunts uncle's and brothers have known me by this name my whole life. So how do I come out to everyone that my name isn't my name anymore. And it is something else instead.

You could always just not tell them and let them call you by your original name. As far as legally and for future people you meet, tell them the new name.

1 mom liked this

You just tell them and then say "And it's not up for discussion."

You're an adult, not a child

For extended family that you don't speak to often, maybe make up cute "change of name" postcards, kind of like a change of address ones

I started using a different name when I was 11. I had no fucks to give about other people's feelings on the matter. I legally changed my name last February. I was 33. I changed it on my ss card at 15.

It's about $500 to legally change your name I was told.
If I hated my name that much I would save up for it and do it legally!
My bff Grandson is going to change his name legally. I am donating towards it !!
His family are criminals and he got pulled over and the cops are always doing this to him.
He's a nice young man who doesn't want the name to ruin his life and it is. Poor kid.
