Migraines Anyone??

Really worried about DF and his migraines. Our PCP gave him a script for immitrex and he's already gone through one script and down to the last 2 of this last refill. Haven't been able to pin down a trigger yet. But he does throw up a lot, chills, all over weakness, and can't handle sound.

Just got home from taking him his meds at work and he could barely handle answering the phone to confirm a patient pick up for the am. No one is able to come in and cover the rest of his shift tonight- works 5p-5a.

We have been waiting for almost a month now trying to get into a neurologist but hard to find one accepting new patients with Medicaid and disability. Finally found one - have to drive 1.5 hours but I'm ok with that. Now waiting on PCP to send the referral again. Also have a sleep study in July.

Any ideas how to get him more comfortable until I can get him to the er when he's off in the am?

I get terrible migraines and have identified the triggers.

Most recently I've started with migraines on days 2-3 of my period. My GYN says that's normal at my age (47) and my older sister started the same last year. It's a PIA but I cannot stop them from happening.

Sinus issues - allergies that irritated my sinuses or if I get a sinus infection. I have found if I take one OTC severe sinus tablet before bed or when I feel a migraine coming on. That helps.

When I've been grinding my teeth at night while sleeping due to stress or anxiety. My jaws start clicking and I feel my whole face getting tight. Migraine follows.

I've been barely able to walk before the pain was so bad. Moving even a little and the nausea was so bad nothing would stay down. When I get them the only thing that helps is a combination of the sinus medication, caffeine and a hot compress then I sleep for a couple hours and I'm over it.

Hope they find the cause and he gets relief. I've had bad ones while working and it's horrible.

50 or 100 mg of imitrex? I take imitrex, thats the only thing that works for me. Did they tell him not to take more than 2 pills in a 24 hour period?

I have had migraines since I was a teen. It starts with visual disturbances and aura for about two hours to the point that I cannot see or function. Then the migraine hits and can last several hours. I have been put on Imitrex and Maxalt and other drugs and nothing helped at all. I have a severe allergy to any aspiring or Ibuprofen so those are out. What helps to reduce the intensity for me is drinking a lot of water, some caffeine and taking extra strength Tylenol right when I know it's going to hit. I also put a cold rag on my head. Sending Good luck to your DH. They absolutely suck!

Imitrex did nothing for me. Sounds, light, smells & movement make mine waaaay worse! I puke with mine as well. Ive been on 10mg dissolvable maxalt for several years and they work wonders!
Triggers can be
Looking at a computer screen to long
Odors
Sausage
Chocolate
Stress
Lack of sleep
Dehydration
Cutting out caffeine
Flourescent lighting

I have migraines and take Excedrin for them and it works well. I hope they figure out what is wrong.

Is he taking something like Topamax to keep them from happening in the first place?

No, our PCP only gave him the immitrex and then given 2 referrals one for a sleep study and neurology.

I'm sitting at his job right now waiting on him and he sounds better so we're going home so I can get more sleep

He needs to ask for a preventative. He doesn't need a neurologist to prescribe it.
