What would you say back to them?

Edit: would you ever tell your child either that you don't love them or that you hate them too?

I'd tell her to watch what she says because words can never be taken back.

You're not the first to tell me that, and I doubt you'll be the last. Try harder.

My 19 year old told me that when he was about 15, but after he realized what I was doing was for his own good he apologized and has never said it since.

This....this is Exactly what I'd say. I would never say something intentionally to hurt them back because I'm pissed off. Because you can't take back words once they are spoken.

Statements like that coming from a teen are done so in frustration and not actual feelings or emotions.

When they said stuff like that I just said "I'm sorry you feel that way" and went on with my day.

I would never, ever, tell them I hate them as well or don't love them. That is too crushing for a teen.
