My 11yo dd called me, crying hysterically because her father "hit her."
I calmed her down and got the entire story (her version) from her.
I then got off of the phone with her and immediately called my ex.
He was expecting it.
He then gave me his version.
I called her back and explained the difference between "hitting" and getting "cuffed" on the side of the head.
She was disrespectful and we have ALWAYS instilled that any disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated, at all.
She told him to "shut the hell up" when he told her that she wasn't allowed to go to a friends' house when there would be no adults there to supervise.
She got mad and lashed out.
Not tolerated.
He explained what happened and why he cuffed her.
I agree with him. It's not how I would have handled it, but she's at dad's house right now. He handled it as he saw fit.
She found a united front when she thought she'd pit us against each other. She was wrong. Just because we divorced, does not mean we will let her behavior slide into disrespectful.
I stand behind his decision and now she knows that.
I cannot believe that she tried that nonsense. We'll be having a covers a tin tomorrow when she is back at my house.
For now, she's grounded to his house for today.

Ah well maybe she won't be so mouthy next time. Grounded for a day is getting off easy. My kids get at least 2 weeks.

He "boxed her ears" as they say in the south. Lol

He just smacked her on the side of the head. Not hard, enough to get her attention.

Yeah I'm not sure I totally agree with that either, but you handled that well. She deserved something.

I've lived in the South my entire life. I've never heard of anyone boxing their kids' ears. Or do you not mean the American South?

We haven't quite figured out punishments yet, it's only been a few months of separate households.
Today is her last day at dad's, then she's back to mine. I feel like she's old enough that the punishment can follow her to my house and she's old enough to understand why.
She's not going anywhere this weekend. Then we'll see since this is her first "big" offense.
She may be testing the limits right now because this is still so new for all of us.
She's going to see very quickly that she will not get far.

You dont hit a kid in the head. "Cuffing" is hitting. Hopefully she tells a teacher.
