Earlier this week, an out of this world job opportunity appeared online.

Nasa announced that there were planning on on hiring an "planetary protection officer," whose chief responsibilities would include protecting our beloved planet from the alien menace.

More specifically, it would involve making sure careless humans don't contaminate other planets, asteroids or moons that we come in contact with. The lucky hire would also make sure alien matter doesn't infect earth too.

The job description reads:

Planetary protection is concerned with the avoidance of organic-constituent and biological contamination in human and robotic space exploration.

Nasa maintains policies for planetary protection, applicable to all space flight missions that may intentionally or unintentionally carry Earth organisms and organic constituents to the planets or other solar system bodies, and any mission employing spacecraft, which are intended to return to Earth and its biosphere with samples from extraterrestrial targets of exploration.

It also comes with a pleasingly high six-figure salary, as much as $187,000 (£141,000) according to the Independent.

Well, we may not have a fully time planetary protection officer yet, but we certainly have an excellent stand in - fourth grader Jack Davis.

Jack wrote a cover letter to Nasa explaining why he should be considered for the role. A friend of Jack's parents uploaded a picture of the letter to the Funny subreddit

The letter reads:

Dear Nasa,

My name is Jack Davis and I would like to apply for the planetary protection officer job. I may be nine but I think I would be fit for the job. One of the reasons is my sister says I am an alien also. I have seen almost all the space and alien movies I can see. I have also seen the show Marvel Agents of Shield and hope to see the movie Men in Black. I am great at vidieo [sic] games. I am young, so I can learn to think like an Alien.

Sincerely,

Jack Davis

Fourth Grade

I especially love the Guardian of the Galaxy part.

As you can see, Jack went to the movie school of planetary defense, he's just got Men In Black left to tick off his IMDB list.

So, Nasa, the ball's in your court - is Jack going to be invited in for an interview?

LOL! What is your 9 yr old doing?
