What is wrong with having latch-key children nowadays? Everyone seems to scared to let their children be home alone for an hour or so. Why the change?

I'm 41, when I was a kid I didn't know anyone who was left home alone until we were teenagers. I grew up in a small town too.

Children are vulnerable and dependent. Someday they will grow up and not need their parents to safeguard them. But when they are young, they need parental protection at all times.

I'm 39 and just about all of my friends were latch key kids.

Idk if there are more boogeymen now or if there's just more media coverage.

There was just a story on the news of home security camera capuring a man kicking in the door of a home in broad daylight, hearing a child upstairs, heading straight for that child, then getting scared away when the kid screamed loud.

It's scary.

I'm 38. I was a latch key kid, as were most of my friends.

I was a latchkey kid. I came home, did my homework, heated up pre made meals my mom froze, and played outside until my mom came home from work. Back then, the neighbors kept an eye on all the kids for each other. They don't do that much anymore. I wouldn't do that now, not with my neighbors.
