Gastritis? Endoscopy?

So I was told I had gastritis today, and was referred to a gastroenterologist to get an endoscopy. I've been waking up at night due to a bad pain in my stomach that radiates to my back. It lasts for hours. Sometimes it's to the point where I can't walk. Like today, so I went to the fast track in the emergency room. It just feels worse every time it happens. I was prescribed liquid carafate, and 40 mg Protonix.

Does anyone here have experience with anything similar? I have to call the gastroenterologist on Monday to set an appointment. I know it might sound crazy, but I'm really nervous about going to sleep, because I'm scared I'll be woken up by that pain. I'm 25 too if it matters.
