We've taken family vacations. When they were school age we did things over the summer, not like expensive things. For example, one summer I made them eithe french toast or micky mouse pancakes for breakfast and they ate sitting out on the deck every morning.

When school started they were so excited to answer what they did over summer. LOL

I've played games with them, sat and talked. Sit and watch them play xbox and ask questions about what game their playing. Even now that they're older. Now we talk about work, school, current events. I find it fascinating how they view what's going on in the world.

I've made the effort to show intrest in what intrests them. Even xbox, which isn't high on my list.

We did board games. Crafts. Word games in the car. Bike riding and hiking in the summer and ice skating and tobogganing in the winter. We also had some serious fort building and snow ball fights as well. I miss those days.
