I'm probably horrible for thinking this but

My dog is like a child to me. I'm one of "those" pet Moms. She is my perfect princess and I would die if anything happened to her.

Last night I saw a headline but I didn't read the post.

The headline was:

"Firefighter says one dog life is more important than a million black lives"

I didn't read the article but my first thought was *My dog's life is*

And I stand by that. My dog's life, to me, is only second to my kids or my husband. If someone said save this person or save your dog, I'd save my dog, no matter the color of the person.

Hopefully you would understand if someone lets your kid die because they saved their dog instead.

What a horrible thing for the firefighter to say.

I didnt see her say that but that might be true. I am with the OP though, if there were not children involved Id totally save my mr muffins as adults have more ability to rescue themselves. I guess it depends on the situation who is involved and what not. Sometimes it is best to save your own and pray the rescues show up to save all.

I understand what you mean, though many here will not.

I'm a bio-mom, so naturally I feel closer to my pet birds than I would to most people, save for DH, as I do not know my bio kids.

The birds are our family.

We know people we like, such as SIL, and the odd friend, but other than that, birds would come first.

I personally value human life over animals. Sad that some don't.

I guess everyone is different. I'd probably save even the shittiest person over the most loyal dog. Human life is more valuable, in my opinion.

That seems really fucked up for a firefighter to say. I understand you saying that about your dog but the firefighter is there to save people's lives and the animals should be 2nd to dogs the firefighters don't even know.
