Anyone know about fairy gardens?

I'm really considering asking my husband to help make one for my birthday. Does it require real plants? I really don't have a green thumb, so it makes me nervous! Any suggestions?

I don't have a green thumb either, and tried to do one with DD. All of the plants died...

My MIL has a fairy garden without plants, and it looks really cute!

You're seriously overthinking this. It's supposed to be fun and creative and light hearted. You're making it complicated and not fun.

Real plants, or just moss, doesn't matter. Put miniature stuff in a pot, that's literally it.

Look into steppables.  These are plants that don't get very tall.  Moss would be good for your fairy garden too!  And you can totally create a fairy garden by making fairy houses out of those tiny wooden birdhouses that craft stores like Michaels sells.  My daughter did that when she was little and placed them among the flowers around the cherry blossom tree in front of our town house.  You can make tiny lawn furniture out of sculpy or found twigs.
