I think this is way over the line...

A co-worker of mine has two kids of her own and two step kids that are with them a lot (I'm not exactly sure on custody but I'm guessing 50/50). Her DD and her step-DD got into a fight last weekend over clothes (both girls are 13). Co-worker took her DD's side and the step-DD basically lost it and called the woman some pretty nasty names. As punishment for the step-DD's behavior, it was decided she wouldn't be going to a concert they were all going to last night.

The co-worker spent all night last night posting pictures of the night out and tagging her step-DD. Including comments like "oh it's too bad you aren't here...maybe you'll learn next time..." And has now spent a good portion of the morning bragging about her "terrific parenting".

Personally, I find this one step shy of abuse. It's one thing to punish the child by taking the concert away, It's another to blatantly rub her face it in. And trust me, the DD can do no wrong the the step-DD is always the bad one.

That's extremely petty for an adult to do.

It's childish and hurtful but not abuse.  Abuse is a serious charge.

That's just mean. Wth? Personally, if it was a family event, I wouldn't be taking that away. I would find another form of punishment.

to me it kind of borders mental abuse so i can see why op looks at it that way. not only is sm taunting her but she is probably making the girl feel unwelcome or disliked

I agree it's not abuse but if she's willing to treat the girl like this publicly and brag about it what is she not willing to do...

I think that's mean. If I were that girl I'd Nair her shampoo and all sorts of awful stuff.
