The teacher wants us to drive 8 hours for an "at home field trip"

There is no way that is happening. We live in northern colorado and DS is doing a project about Mesa Verde national park.

The teacher wants us to do an "at home field trip" (is that even a real thing?) and go and see it. The problem is it is 8 hours away. So 16 hours round trip which just isnt going to happen. Either we would have a really really long day or we would have to stay the night

On top of that I dont know if my car would even make it. We are saving up for a new one. There is no way I am going to risk it.

I think that is way to much to drive. I could understand if it was like half an hour away or if it was extra credit or something but that isnt the case. It is part of the grade.

I talked to the teacher about it and she said that if we dont go DS wont get the point. I know we cant be the only people not going.

I am going to set up a time to talk to the principal about this. Not everyone can just do a trip like that and kids shouldnt be marked down because of it.

That is ridiculous. What about parents that can't drive, or take off work, or can't afford the trip?

I doubt the principal will back the teacher on something so ridiculous. Go over his head if he does.

Huh. That's weird. What about YouTube videos? Would she count that?

That's ridiculous.  She is out of line with that request.

That is a totally unreasonable distance.

I think it is supposed to be like "at home" instead of an "at school" field trip. It makes no sense

The teacher means you do the field trip while you are at home, thus an "at home" field trip. Stupid. I would call all the other parents.

Yeah, she's crazy. Present her an estimate with gas and hotel costs.

No she wants us to actually go there in person
