Grandma here who needs to ask a carseat question

My dd is 24 so when she was in carseats it was just a basic seatbelt that went through the back of the seat.  Well she has a 2 yr old and in a new forward facing carseat. When I take my grand daughter I notice her carseat has anchor straps and I am smart enough to know they clip onto the anchors in my car. My dd says all it needs is a seatbelt through the back but her bf says he just clips the straps to the cars anchor's. So what is correct?

Seatbelt only through the back?

Seatbelt through the back and the straps latched onto the anchors in the car?

Or just clip the straps to the anchors in the car only?

I do both actually because it's just safest.

Do not use seat belt and latch together. Choose 1 and then use the top tether also. Make sure the seat belt is snug and the seat cannot move more than an inch. Harness should come from above her shoulders, chest clip between the armpits, and harness snug so you can't pinch an inch.

The anchors are more secure, but they are meant to be used alone. You're not supposed to use the seatbelt and the LATCH anchors together.

ETA if you use the LATCH anchors make sure all straps are as tight as you can get them.

It actually isn't safest, so don't use both.

I prefer to just use the LATCH anchors because we don't move our seats much and I can secure it most snugly that way.

Both are correct you can either anchor it OR use the seatbelt. Either way is perfectly fine. You should NOT use both.

There are warnings on all LATCH capable car seats to never use both together, only one or the other.

Quoting jcm3: I would do all .
