Engagement ring

My son is 27 and planning to propose to his girlfriend next year. They have been together a year and he thinks it'll take him another year to finish saving for the ring. He took me to the jewelry store and showed me the one he's got on layaway. It is $10,000! It seems like a lot but I've never been married myself so maybe that's normal?

I'm so happy hes going to propose though! They are perfect for each other! He has turned out to be a good man despite not having a father.

She's very classy. I was afraid he would not want to introduce her to me since I had him so young and I never married his father but like I said he turned out good :)

I know! It's from Tiffanys. Just a basic round solitaire but it's beautiful.

My DH makes 6 figures and only spent about $3,000 on my ring. It's obviously your son's choice but I don't understand buying a ring you can't afford without saving for a year.

Dh paid $500 for my set back in 95'. LOL When he upgraded my ring after 15 years of marriage, he paid $2K for my upgrade. $10K is nuts IMO.

Way too much on a ring. That money would be better spent on a down payment for a house imo.
