This was MIL's actual complaint

MIL Lives with us, and her bedroom is right under the kids room. She works at night and sleeps during the day. This afternoon she complained that the kids were making too much noise and she couldn't sleep. They weren't actually being loud, but any noise is amplified downstairs, so there's not much they can do about it except whisper. So, after a couple hours of trying to keep the kids as quiet as church mice, I finally kicked them outside. THEN she came storming up the stairs telling me that my kids were outside playing and it was driving HER dogs nuts, and that they (her dogs) were keeping her awake.

I seriously can't win with this woman.

i'd tell her to find another place to live then. i'm not going to make my kids be mute because of her. or walk on egg shells. i couldn't live like that in my own home.

I worked nights for years. I understand how frustrating it is not to sleep, especially since it was just my kids and me, and sleep was pretty much non-existent for me. However, I would never demand other people be quiet when I'm living in their home.

My dh works nights as well but I give him a fan and that helps drown out the kids noise.

Tell her to get ear pligs. She has to know there will be noise when there are kids involved.

Well, she can find her own place or STFU.

I'd tell her to suck it up and deal with it.

I've worked nights and normal household noise is just something you have to deal with.

It's her responsibility to make sure her dogs aren't acting like assholes when kids play in their own yard.
