Watch your stuff! Avoid the south side if you can.

Stay far away from the violent south side and you should be ok.

Get on Trip Advisor and read recent reviews.

It used to be a beautiful city when I visited in the late 1990's, with great museums and good shopping. Not sure if the good areas have turned bad now.

Most of it is just fine. Don't listen to the scaredy cats. Like any city, stay in populated areas, don't walk away from your purse, don't walk down a dark alley alone.

Take cabs. Water taxi. Stay at a hotel on the north side, north avenue beach isn't as nice as north suburbs but you won't be swimming anyway. Shop on the mag mile. Visit the intercontinental hotel. Visit trib tower. Navy pier.

We just used Uber. We stayed in Rosemont which is a bit farther than I realized when booking. However, they do have the Sugar Factory near there and it was really good. We pretty much ran around town and ate/drank for two days. The horse drawn carriage ride is really neat. I'd do that again. My favorite place to eat was Lou Malnati's. We went to a ton more but I don't recall the names. The art museum and the aquarium were really cool too.
