Insensitive Teacher

My son came up home very upset yesterday. He transferred to a new school a few weeks ago and is having a hard time making friends. He's very advanced and just doesn't relate well to kids his age.

At his old school his teacher really took a personal interest in him. She realized social times like lunch and recess were hard for him so she let him eat with her and stay in the room during recess.
My son has been composing about daily about lunch. The other two about video games and things he's not interested in. He just sits by himself and it's very awkward for him. He tries to read but the other kids are loud. When he asked them to be quiet they tell him they don't have to.

I suggested she ask his new teacher to let him eat with her like he did before. He was very upset when he came because the teacher told him. She also told him the other kids were right that they are allowed to be loud at lunch. At first I thought he misunderstood. But called her and she admitted she said that. She actually said it was unfair of my son to expect the other to be quiet to let him read.

So I asked if he could eat somewhere else and she said no. She said she can't supervise him during lunch. He's very well behaved and doesn't need supervision!

After the break I'm calling the principal. I am so hurt for my son that his teacher won't help him.

Uh, the teachers deserve a lunch break with no kids.....

Encouraging him to hide out during lunch isn't going to help him make friends

Oh for Christ's sake   The teacher deserves a break, and your kid needs to learn to figure out things for himself

How so?

In the real world he can eat lunch where he wants.

He still can’t tell people in a restaurant to be quiet because he wants to read.
