Does your family thank the cook? Do you thank your kids when they do chores or pitch in on things?
We verbally show appreciation every day. We thank whoever cooked, when I tell dd to clean the bathroom, or wash dishes I tell her thanks when she says ok, and thank you when she's done. It's not really a thank god you'll do it thing, she knows she is to do what she's told. But a thank you seems appropriate. We've always been this way.

My kids do it. It's annoying.

We do. If the kids help me, I thank them for their help. If they make dinner for me, then I thank them for it, and vice versa. My husband and I especially thank our youngest daughter for cleaning the kitchen because it's a chore that she inherited now that my son has his own place, and our oldest daughter is away at school. We don't even have to ask her to do it, she just does.

Why? What's wrong with voicing their appreciation? It shows they aren't taking what you do for granted.

We generally use kind and appreciative language about those sorts of things.

We have always modeled that kind of behaviour for our daughter.

Yes, Everyone thanks each other for whatever they do,plus.
My children and grandchildren are all very thankful and appreciative for anything done.
They all have great hearts and are very kind and generous with their time and are very verbal.
