DS who is 9 asked him if doctors could change a boy into a girl because some of his friends told him at school that that happens now. Dh actually told them "No they can't"!!!

He said you can change your clothes and hairstyle but you will always be what you were born as!!

What a dickhead!! I'm trying to raise these kids to be all inclusive and understanding!! Not biased from childhood! Ugh.

Then you're wrong. Because those surgeries do exist whether you like it or not.

I would tell your child that doctors can't change your chromosomes and that's what dad meant, but there are hormones and surgeries that people can have if they choose.

You could say, "Well actually, yes there are people who choose to have surgery to change their genitals. Whether it actually changes their gender is something many people disagree on or don't quite understand. Which is why your father said no."

I would be upset too. I live in a city where there are actually a lot of transgender people, and I want my kids to be accepting of others.

If he had said something about the inability to change DNA, but a person can change their body, that would have been different.

You need to talk with your dh first. If you two aren’t on the same page then it’ll confuse your kids.
