I got my 60 lb dog one of those ham bones they sell at the store in plastic wrap. He ate the whole thing in a couple of hours. Is this normal? I figured he would gnaw on it over the long weekend. I am new to the whole dog thing.

Some dogs do that.

Some dogs make them last.

It just depends on the dog.

our dachsund would eat it in 1 hour.  The collie won't touch them.  The spaniel will take days to eat it, assuming the dach doesn't get to it first.

We have a 60 pound GS and he would have that gone in a couple hours, totally normal for a big dog.

Pretty much esp. for that size dog.
Be on the watch for diarrhea and don't give them to him very often.

depends on what it's made of

my dog with go through a pretty good sized rawhide in less than 20 minutes.

some bones, though, are not meant to be ingested.

Try the 'tough chewer' type of chew toys.. those things last quite a while. (I forget what brand, but there are some chew toys that are 'rated' by the degree of chewing your dog does)

Mine would have eaten the whole thing and then proceeded to puke it all up in the middle of the living room. They only get their food, a few small treats and maybe a bit of watermelon or popcorn.

Totally normal. I know a lot of people that do elk antlers because they last longer.

When I did have my Care Bear (my dog, a Toy Poodle), she wasn't much of an eater. But if I got her those or ribs....let's just say it looked like she hadn't eaten in years!
