I was getting things ready for dinner when I got called into work. I am just a back up but they need me here just in case

I'm supposed to be hosting 30 people for dinner. Dh said he would try and finish the cooking so everything will still be okay but he is a terrible.... And I mean terrible cook. The only thing he is good at is making steak and burgers on the grill

He doesn't know how to make or make most side dishes and I just know the turkey will be dry

On one hand I'll be missing dinner anyway but on the other hand our family/friends are coming over for a good mean and now I know it won't be good.

The whole thing sucks

Most people are driving in from out of town. Dd said she will try to help also but she is 14 and has only watched me make these dishes.

Then tell work you can't make it. Fuck employers who make people work holidays

Where do you work? If you knew there was a possibly of being called in, why did you say you would host?

Call one of your guests, the most understanding one who can also cook, and tell them what happened, beg them to come over early to help your husband. With 30 people, there's got to be at least one who would be willing to do this. (I would, in a heartbeat.)

So - time to call in the family, let them know what happened and let them take over.

That’s what family is for
