anyone ever put their dog down at home? I remember years ago a guy put his dog to sleep in his backyard and buried him there.

And how would one do that?

We had a dog that was too big and old to transport in the shape he was in. The vet that treats our horses put him down and we buried him.

my SO dog is big too so I think that's a better option.

I'd only do it if we had a vet that came to the house.  Which I have now.

When we had to put Marely down, we did not.

Even with Bently around we miss her...

No, we brought our pets,to the vet office.

It took a lot to get our first saint bernard there. I miss him.

I would never put my animals down myself. That should be left up to a professional . I would never want to put them in more pain than they are already in.

See if there is a mobil vet who will come to your house.  Or ask if your vet will do that.

No. My dad had to take my moms cat to the vet to have her put down. My poor mom was so sad the cat was 21 years old and my dad had surprised mom with the kitten after their first baby was stillborn. My mom couldn't do it so my dad had to bring the cat while she was working - the cat was just in pain and couldn't control bodily functions anymore.
