How does she have a medical license?!?!?

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

Ugh I'm so annoyed with our primary care doctor.

DH went in today because he has a fever, cough, and body aches. I wanted him to go in early because it could be the flu and I'm pregnant and asthmatic. She gave him antibiotics (just in case), but refused to give him Tamiflu until the flu test comes back ON FRIDAY.

Seriously?!?! Did she go to medical school? Antibiotics are useless "just in case". DH has no evidence of a bacterial infection. And tamiflu doesn't work if given more than 48 hours after symptoms start. Why doesn't she have a rapid flu test? Those suckers take 15 minutes.

Oh and apparently she didn't even take DH's temperature. I asked what it was and he was like, wait, she didn't take it. (He's a bit out of it)

Same... I got it last year from our youngest kiddo.. They put me on Tamiflu and I thought I would die...my blood pressure skyrocketed, I was throwing up, had dizzy spells.. I called and they told me to stop taking it immediately and I would just have to ride out the flu. I will never take it again.

Quoting Anonymous 14: Tamiflu is most effective if taken within 48 hours but can be taken later and still help with the severe symptoms. Personally the side effects of the medication were worse than the actual flu. It also doesn’t prevent the spread so you are still at risk.

I'm shocked they don't have the rapid test either. I would have sent him to urgent care if I'd known that. Because tamiflu only works within 48 hours, they will give it (if you have a reason) when you don't know for sure. They also give it as prophylaxis to people who have been exposed and have no symptoms.

The fact that I don't have a medical license and know more than this doctor is what's scary.

Quoting Anonymous 11:

Shocked they don't have the rapid test in the office. Our doctor does. You don't give Tamiflu unless you know it is the flu dumbass.

Where did you get your medical license?

Damn girl stfu! I could buy myself a new car if I had a dollar for every time you talked about "how scary" it is that you know more than the doctor.... when you don't. Seriously.... shut the fuck up.

She got it from one of those dress up kits in the toy section at walmart.

You understand Tamiflu doesn't cure the flu, yes? And why are you so worried if you both received a flu shot (that's never been tested in pregnant women, by the way).

I don’t even bother with PCPs. I do specialists and urgent care. Did you try going somewhere else? It shouldn’t take 2 days to have a flu test. It’s done in a couple minutes at urgent care.

A lot of doctors don’t do the rapid tests because it isn’t very accurate.

Here they won't give tamiflu unless you are in a high risk category.  Being WITH someone who is asthmatic doesn't make that.  Being pregnant doesn't matter.

Quoting Anonymous 1:

I wasn't there.

DH didn't know that you have to take tamiflu within 48 hours. He asked if Friday was too late and she said it was fine. He shouldn't have to know the indications of all medications. That's kinda the point of having a doctor.

When I asked about the temperature he was annoyed. He's sick. He wasn't thinking clearly.

Quoting Anonymous 3: Why didnt you or DH say this to her while you were there. DH should have insisted on the Tamiflu or he would file a complaint with the state medical board. She would have changed her tune really fast

You should have diagnosed him yourself, at home, using your "medical licence." lol.

Did your husband’s Illness grow over a few days? Did he wake up sick one morning? Or can he pinpoint the exact moment he realized he was sick?
