I'm so sick of seeing some women on here think it's ok for them or their DHs working jobs that they KNOW they will be laid off because they'll just collect unemployment. Then they say they don't rely om welfare. People are so stupid and will find jobs that they only need to work half the year and then sit on their asses and collect unemployment AKA WELFARE! This is another reason I don't support unions. They help the lazy.

Its eligibility isn’t based on income, and you pay into it, so its not welfare.

My coworkers husband used to do that. It blows my mind that people find that acceptable.

In most states, that money comes from a tax on employers. Businesses pay a certain amount of money into an unemployment insurance trust fund, based on the number of employees they have, their history of laying people off, and the current tax rate. That trust fund then provides the money needed for benefits.

My DH is a small business owner.  He pays unemployment taxes to help offset anyone getting unemployed.  Do you understand how unemployment works?  You still have to look for and find a job on unemployment.

If you work half a year and collect unemployment half a year, you are taking WAY more than you are ever putting in. And if that’s your life strategy, you’re a slimeball who is abusing the system.

Quoting Anonymous 3: Its eligibility isn’t based on income, and you pay into it, so its not welfare.

You seem to be confused on things. I'd spend your free time educating yourself.

Welfare is a means tested and how much you get is based on your income.

Unemployment is not that.  You would do well to educate yourself.

It’s not means tested you dolt. You pay into unemployment insurance when you work.
