Looking for small dog recommendations

We already have a larger dog, and our son wants a puppy, and we said no. But we all agreed to let him have a smaller dog. (Pug size)
What’s a good one?

We did, and they had some cute ones. We just don’t know much about small dogs as I’ve never owned one.

I only had one small purebred dog, a Chihuahua. His attitude sucked lol. I will always recommend a mixed breed, less idiosyncratic, fewer health problems.

I was gonna recommend the same.

I'd steer away from Chihuahuas, but that's me

Otherwise, you just need to pick a small dog on an individual basis.

Mine are awesome, but they were hell to potty train, and I hear that a lot about other small dogs.

Mine are jack russle/dachshund mixes with probably other stuff thrown in. But if they're any indication of that breed mix, I highly recommend!

I won’t do dachshund, my inlaws have one, and I want to murder that asshole!

I recently got a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, he is a wonderful little guy! I honestly do not know too much about his breed though.

I honestly don't recommend any small dogs with younger kids
