Huge milestone, I broke down and cried!

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

My 4 year old son says very little, he is in Speech Therapy, Sensory Therapy, Behavior Therapy.  What few words he does say, people seldom understand him, which leads to him getting frustrated and he reacts by hitting himself.

Tonight I told him to go upstairs and play in his room, I said, "see you later alligator".  He said, "I not alligator, I Gabriel".

I'm tearing up typing this.  We are making headway!!! I'm so happy!

I can relate! My oldest also had speech issues. Hearing that little voice is a blessing! 😊

That’s pretty cool. I have a friend with a son who has selective mutism. He rarely talks and almost never outside of the family. He is starting to finally make some progress though. I think he’s in 2nd grade.

Way to go Gabriel!!! My daughter is 12 and I remember the first time she said I love you. It was 2 yrs ago. She's been in speech therapy since she was 4. She was non verbal. I completely get the emotion. Get the tissue box for more firsts to come.

Yay! Definitely worthy of celebration! My son was nonverbal until he was 4 as well so I totally understand your excitement.

I completely understand, as a matter of fact it was a mother here and her food porn, posting a picture of a cupcake that prompted my son to say that word for the first time, and clearly. It was an amazing moment. Congratulations

It really is.  All of my friends say I will be telling him to stop talking one day, but I doubt that will ever happen, I want to hear him all the time!
