We're never going to get caught back up

We got behind on some of our bills in dec and January. Weather related. Dh is back working but he isn't getting many hours. He'll go in and it will start raining and get sent home. If he works all day today. He'll have 30 hr next week. Which will make for a crappy check. i am trying to pay extra on my rent weekly to get it caught up. I am paying weekly until we get it caught up. as of right now i am only able to pay an extra $100 a week and my rent is $825 a month. But i also have a car payment i got behind on and i am paying $100 a week on too. When it is normally $150 biweekly.
His check this week was only $500 Because he didn't even get quite 40 hrs last week. My check was $600 but i get paid bi weekly. But i have $175 car insurance to pay, $100 car, $400 in rent. After all of that well have $200 left. And now it looks like it will rain all next week too.

Next week dh check will be shit and i got my cell phone automatically coming out.

I am waiting on our taxes which isn't much but is enough to get us caught up. But ut hasn't moved past received. It has been there for over a week. I jopr2 it gets deposited next week. Otherwise i won't be able to pay extra on my rent
I just want to get caught up. I am also behind on our credit cards and they are blowing our phone up.

Just a vent after i checked next weeks weather. Ugh

Okay you'll just be back in this spot again.

Quoting Anonymous 1: Were not getting 2nd jobs. We got behind due to him not working for a month. We are paying current rent abd toward the back rent abd once our taxes come in, we'll be caught up.

Quoting nmkj: You guys are both going to have to get second jobs. You can't keep paying your rent late.

Tenants like me. Who is that exactly... being late one time doesn't make me any type of tenants and yes my landlord isn't an asshole. You probably were that is probably why you aren't a landlord anymore.

Quoting lily99300:

You're the one who used the example that your landlord isn't an asshole when the rent is late by a few days.

I used to be a landlord.  I can't stand tenants like you.

Quoting Anonymous 1: No shit.

Quoting lily99300:

A month?!  Yeah, that's not even close to "a few days".

Quoting Anonymous 1: I am a month late abd he isn't talking eviction because hw ia working with us

Quoting Anonymous 15: But you are more than a few days late...

February is a short month too...

Quoting Anonymous 1: Talking eviction when rent is a,few daya late does. Not realizing shit happen does

Quoting Anonymous 12:

Expecting rent to be paid on time every month does not make a landlord and "asshole"  Landlords also have financial obligations.

Quoting Anonymous 1: Some landlords are not assholes and understand shit happens. As long as you are making ab effort they will work with you. It isn't like we just stop paying. We did talk to him about .

Quoting MrsDavidB25:

So you are behind on rent?  What kind of landlord is ok with the tenants not paying rent on time? I was under the impression you had to pay or face eviction.

All I'm saying is not all landlords who don't work with you on late rent are assholes.
And that's great that your landlord is having pity on you and working with you.

Okay then why didn't you plan better? My dad did construction work when I was a kid and not once were my parents ever late on a bill. You know why? Because they were adult enough to plan ahead for the lean months during the prosperous ones.

My husband and I have never been late on any bills even when he was transitioning out of the military and then laid off a few years later... You know why? because we planned ahead. And our mortgage alone is $1987 a month. When we rented it was 2200 a month. So if you can't save enough to cover 400 a month then there is something wrong with your budget.

Quoting Anonymous 1: Tenants like me who dont pay. Sweetie this is the first time EVER i have been late. So don't talk about things you don't know about. How about ypu kiss my ass. Fyi that house waa vacant for a yr before i moved in. He sure in the hell wasn't getting any rent then.
Quoting mammakittykat: This exactly. Rent/mortgage is always the first thing that gets paid each month. I understand that the landlord has to eat too and if I am late paying him than that could make him late paying his bills. See how that works, OP? It has a ripple effect. My grandparents had rental properties and anytime someone was late on rent more than 2 months it would put them in a bind.

Sure you think they are being assholes when they talk eviction for late rent, but it is tenants like you who habitually don't pay rent that makes them not want to play nice. They don't have to understand your financial troubles, because your financial trouble isn't their problem. Here's a novel concept.. How about finding a job that doesn't rely on the weather or how about putting away money during the prosperous months so you won't get behind on the lean months.

Quoting Not_A_Native:

I'm a landlord, for 2 rental properties.

We don't talk eviction when the rent is a few days late - but if it's 5 days late, it's a $50 late fee.  If it's not paid in full by the 2nd month (including late fee) - we start talking eviction.

We have mortgage, taxes and insurance to pay on that house you are renting.  We count on that income.  As the rentals are part of an LLC, we cannot just "pay for it" from our own money - it has to be from money coming in FROM the rental.

We won't be. That is a fact. We had 3 or 4 months to prepare most of that time was in the winter months. While preparing we had to settle in, find a place, get our personal belonging and so forth. We are settled. We don't have to pay first last and security pay about $900 to get utulities turned on and spend almost 2 k on moving. And we are both working. We have a yr to prepare for next winter and we know what to look for now. Once we get caught up we will be fine

I got very tired of people like you not paying their rent on time.  Your financial situation isn't my fucking problem.  You signed a contract, now adhere to it. Guess I'm an asshole because I want my money on time when you're living in MY house.

I have had amazing tenants that fell on hard times.  I cut them some slack.  Why?  Because I saw them busting their asses doing whatever it took to earn more money.  They earned my respect so I gave them respect in return.  You, however, are a total mess when it comes to your finances from all you've posted in this thread.

Sorry I misread it, but still if you can't save enough to cover your rent during lean months then something is wrong with your budget. A good rule of thumb (especially with trades affected by weather is to have 6 months living exspenses in the bank. At the very least rent.

You literally just said you and DH would not be getting second jobs.  People who are in dire financial straits do whatever the hell it takes to pay their bills.  My DH was laid off for six months years ago.  I got a second job to ensure we could pay our bills.

And DUH... of course I don't know who you are.  What a silly thing to say.  LOL.

Okay and what happens when you are caught up and your taxes are gone and your husband still isn't working a lot of hours because of weather? You are going to be back in this same position and not have your tax refund to save you.
So yeah you may want to get second jobs.
