Who would NOT choose Austin?

DH got a job offer. There are different locations from which he could do the job. Austin, TX, Burlingame, CA, London, Hong Kong, and Tel Aviv. He wants to take the job in Burlingame, CA because we live in a town called Gilroy, CA about 50 miles away. But, seriously, who would NOT choose Austin? This seems like a no brainier. Pack up the kids, break our lease, donate our stuff, and move. It's adventure time.

ETA: I should add the job is for super low money (for places like Hong Kong and London). Only $135,000 a year w/ no contractual bonuses.

$135,000 in Burlingame, CA buys you the same lifestyle you could maintain for

$39,425 in Austin, TX

$107,870.20 in London

$103,705.30 in Hong Kong

$84,622.69 in Tell Aviv

Our rent is $3,000 a month. I'm 36, and have never owned a home. To live the life here we could live in Austin on $135,000, we would have to make $462,266. Which we will never, in our lives, make within one year.

Update: He's decided to take the job in Burlingame. He'll try to get a part-time job on the weekends and I'll try to get one or two jobs working opposite hours from him so we can afford for him to work the job.

Update2: I filled out an application yesterday at Denny's. I went after my oldest came home from school. Today when she comes home from school, I'm going to head over to the casino and see what they have available. I'm not as down about his choice. It's for a lot less money than he was making in San Jose, but beggars can't be choosers.

Hong Kong sounds like more of an adventure to me. Of course that might be because Austin is only a couple of hours from where I already live.

Seeing as we live in Atlanta and we are currently a 5.5 hour drive or 2 hour flight from my mother and inlaws, I would choose to stay here. I would not move across the country or overseas as I refuse to be that far from our aging parents in case of emergency. Dh knows this and feels the same way. I'm not sure I like any of those options. LOL  I have zero desire to move to CA or TX...I don't care to go to London or Tel Aviv.. Hong Kong would be ok, but way too far away. It's a 15 hour flight and that is just too long in an emergency.

I lived in Austin for over 12 years and LOVED IT!!!
But that was a while ago and it has changed a lot!! Some for better and some for not. It is definitely becoming overcrowded and there’s some kind of building being put up on every corner now. The traffic is unreal as well, when we go there I usually cannot wait to leave and I hate saying this and sounding like an old person but it’s just not how it used to be.

Anyway how are not considering London????
I would move there in a heartbeat!!! Get the hell out of this place!

Well wishes to you whatever you decide!

I'd choose London. In fact I moved here!

Hong Kong sounds great but only if it was short term.

Honestly Austin sounds like the least exciting of the bunch.

London and Hong Kong are options and you think Austin will be an adventure? I’d pick London any day of the week

I would choose CA or London over Austin all day, any day. I hate Texas.

In Hong Kong, you need to hire a school consultant at least a year before moving to get a placement for an international school. And then you have to pay out a huge amount of money for private school. The job is only for $135,000 a year. We'd starve in Hong Kong, and all the kids would end up having to go to school where they'd be taught in Cantonese.
